This week we want you to get outdoors to find your artistic inspiration. Maybe that means making a collage out of collected flora and fauna, or printmaking with leaves. CREATE’s Event Organizer, Kateri Foreman, decided to try her hand at making all-natural, homemade watercolour from beets! Check out her ‘How to Video’ and keep reading for the recipe!

Tip: Don’t forget to refrigerate your paint between uses, otherwise it will turn and start to stink pretty quickly!
Tip: You can use the same method with other veggies to make different colours! Yellow/orange – carrots, orange peel, celery leaves; green – grass, spinach, kale; red/purple – red cabbage!

Trick our eyes using any art form you’d like. Take a photo or shoot a video making something small appear giant, or something big look tiny! Maybe you’re a master of disguise and can use body paint and costumes to camouflage or transform yourself into different people or creatures. What illusions can you come up with? Check out mind-bending this example from Kurtis, CREATE’s co-op student:

As we gear up for our 48-Hour Short Story Competition (June 18-20), we’re challenging you to write a story using only ten words!
All great stories need a beginning, middle, and end, so choose your words carefully!
We’ve had so much fun writing our own. Once you start, these shortest of short stories get addictive to write!
Some of our favourites are:
“With the time machine broken, yesterday was coming up quick.”
“Gravatron spins. A stomach gurgles. Eyes lock. Their fates sealed.”
“As the wave crested, the city braced against its reflection.”
Follow us on our socials for even more amazing stories and to share yours with us!

To kick off CREATE the Summer, we want you to show us what Niagara Falls means to you. The rest of the world knows our mighty falls as one of the natural wonders of the world. Over the years, the city has become a beacon for honeymooners and summer tourists looking for fun at kitschy motels, diners, and wax works museums. But what does Niagara Falls represent to the people who live here and call this amazing place home.
That’s why this week, we’re asking you to express what “Niagara Falls” means to you!
The best part? We want you to use any art form you want!
Get CREATIVE!
Paint it. Sing it. Write it. Dance it. Make a short film about it!
CREATE the Summer is about embracing your creative spirit. So whether you’re a pro or it’s your first time writing, painting, or dancing, we want to see it all!
Be sure to share it with us so we can all celebrate the amazing creativity across Niagara!
